Dr. /Prof. Wolfgang Genthe, Director of LAR Corporation of Germany, an expert in environmental protection gave an academic lecture on Research on the Restoration of Soil and Groundwater in Berlin of Germany in CUIT. The public lecture was hosted by Xu Chenghua, Associate Dean of School of Resources and Environment of CUIT, with the attendance of all the teachers and students.

Dr. Wolfgang Genthe introduced the background of Restoration of Soil and Groundwater in Berlin and explained in detail the restoration theory of polluted groundwater, measures taken to deal with it and the research process. He interpreted the successful cases, including the restoration of the oil leak that happened in the Petroleum Refinery of Italy, oil polluted ground water and soil in the Ernst Coleman Park and the Bran District, analyzing in particular the method of model building and regulation, on-line monitoring and analysis, core technology of photochemical catalysis theory, function of soil impoundment and precipitation as well as the application of monitoring well. Dr. Wolfgang Genthe gave the suggestion over the control of the soil and groundwater: effective measures must be taken right away by people of our generation, with the participation of engineers, geographers and people with multidisciplinary background.
